Big Story
How We Helped a Founder Recover Time & Money
When you're building a biotech company, every minute spent outside the lab or away from investors is a minute too long.
That was the challenge Armand Cognetta, CEO of General Proximity, faced as his startup began to scale. With a growing team and new demands, he found himself overwhelmed by back-office tasks, including onboarding checklists, payroll issues, vendor payments, and the constant pressure of compliance.
“I was distracted, and the distraction was dragging our momentum,” Armand told us.
He was logging more than 30 hours every month on administrative tasks, time that should have been devoted to product strategy, hiring, and fundraising.
Here’s what operations looked like before Chore stepped in:
8 to 10 hours per week managing reimbursements, onboarding steps, and approvals
Manual tracking of compliance tasks, offer letters, and state-specific hiring requirements
Fragmented tooling across Gusto, Carta, and spreadsheets with no central workflow
One founder doubling as Head of Ops, HR, and Admin
Armand had intentionally avoided hiring a full-time operations lead to stay lean. Still, the cost of that decision was mounting rapidly in terms of missed focus, growing compliance risk, and slowed momentum.
But once Chore came on board, we helped General Proximity build a workflow that scaled with them. We:
Replaced scattered spreadsheets with automated onboarding and compliance processes
Implemented rule-based approvals for reimbursements and synced vendor payments.
Integrated payroll and equity tools to reduce friction and eliminate missed filings
Centralised all operational communication in one Slack channel
The results we drove at a glance:
We helped the company go from 30+ hours per month spent on Ops to under 3 hours weekly.
No need to hire a full-time operations lead, saving approximately $120,000 annually
Compliance risk reduced: We avoided $10,000 to $15,000 in potential penalties
Reimbursement accuracy improved: Error rate dropped from 7% to 1%, resulting in $10,000 to $12,000 in savings
All onboarding, payroll, and equity steps are now automated and state-compliant
One centralised Slack channel replaced scattered email chains and tool-switching
In total, we now record an annual $140,000 to $150,000 saved across operations staffing, legal risk, and administrative inefficiencies.
“I waited too long to get to Chore. Now, I could go back to being the CEO of a biotech company, not Chief Admin Officer,” Armand says.
We caught up with him lately and he tells us how he feels about using chore.
